Questions about applying to US colleges?

Tenth-, eleventh- and twelfth-graders at Bavarian International School–and their parents!–are invited to a lunchtime presentation by Dr. Marlena Corcoran, Director of Athena Mentor. Bring your lunch and your questions!

When: Wednesday, 24 February, from 11:30 am – 12:15 pm

Where: Bavarian International School

Why: Because you need to know! And Dr. Corcoran is the one to ask.

Special Guest: A BIS student who is going through the application process this year will be on hand to share her experiences.

Top colleges want to know about you—your preparation, your goals, what your recommenders have to say about you, your sense of responsibility and community as seen in service activities, and above all, your leadership abilities. Your essays are crucial in conveying who you are and what you really care about: your unique fingerprint.

The college advising services at Athena Mentor bring out the best in each of our students. Come to the free presentation at BIS–and contact us for a free follow-up half-hour consultation.

Tenth-Graders

It’s not too soon to start thinking about college! What do you need to know now?

When: 12:20 pm

Where: Bavarian International School

The SAT: Your reasoning and quantitative skills

They’re part of your fingerprint. Analytic and quantitative skills are necessary for success in college. Wouldn’t it be reasonable for top colleges to ask about these skills?

Top colleges need to know that you can handle the academic work expected of you in their particular program. You need to know this, too! Look at the grades and the SAT scores of the last class admitted to each program you are considering. Will you be able to keep up with these students? Will you be able to actively contribute to your team? Assess your skills and goals realistically, and seek out colleges that are a match!

The good news

Your skills can be improved! It’s not only about raising your grades or your SAT scores—but genuinely improving your ability to think.

But is it all about that one test?

Of course not! The most important part of your preparation for college is the work you do in school every day. Do you feel you could do better in school? Parents, are you concerned that your child lacks motivation or is underachieving? Athena Mentor offers complete support services for the IB program. We specialize in changing how students think about math. We love math, and you will, too! Really! Contact us!
