IB Students Have Special Advantages: Structure

  • Leverage your IB skills! IB students are quick to grasp the principles of logic that we teach in IB2SAT. These principles will help you eliminate wrong answers and choose the best answer on the exam.
  • You will learn to see through to the heart of things. This skill will serve you well not only on the SAT, but for the rest of your life.

IB Students Have Special Challenges: Specifics

  • To do well on the SAT, both native and non-native speakers must strengthen their grasp of English idioms, vocabulary, grammar and prose style.
  • Verbal skills must be developed slowly. IB2SAT online works with email, iPod and the web to help you learn something new every day!

Friday Class

  • IB2SAT will be held at MIS during school hours on Fridays from February 1-May 2, 2008. IB2SAT includes nine two-hour classes, IB2SAT online, SAT prep books and all course materials.

Weekend Class

Are you looking at the schedule and thinking you need more preparation? Good thought! We will be offering an additional two hours of prep time at MIS on weekends, at a time to be arranged. The weekend course will be coordinated to make the most of the Friday course, and we expect a smaller working group. The supplementary weekend course can be taken only in conjunction with the Friday course.

We are expecting all students to sign up for both the Friday and weekend classes. If you are a student athlete, or if you have another kind of serious scheduling problem, please discuss this with Ms. O’Byrne at MIS or Dr. Corcoran at Athena Mentor.

How Do I Sign Up?

To register for IB2SAT, send an email message with the student’s name, the name of a parent or both parents (or guardian, as the case may be), the student’s email address and the address to which the invoice should be sent by post. The invoice will contain bank information that will enable you to pay the fee by electronic bank transfer.

Send the email message to: athena@athena-mentor.com

Do you have any questions about whether this is right for you or your child? Dr. Corcoran is very happy to discuss details with students or parents. She has already gotten to know several MIS families! They will tell you that she is easy to talk to.

Call Dr. Corcoran at: +49 (0)89 3888 9575.

Also included: IB2SAT Online for free!!!

Your SAT scores are a crucial element in your application dossier. Math skills can be strengthened relatively quickly, but verbal skills must be strengthened slowly, over time. IB2SAT Online is designed to strengthen your verbal skills without boring you to death.

But how?

Here’s how it works:

  • Once a week, you will receive a very short story specially written for students preparing for the SAT.
  • On each of the following six days, you will receive an exercise, crossword puzzle, or quiz by email.
  • The answers appear in the following day’s message.
  • On the seventh day, a new weekly unit begins.

These messages are designed to help you master the vocabulary, grammar, idioms and style exemplified by the story. You need to know this stuff to do well on the SAT!

Who should sign up?

Are you planning to apply to colleges in the United States?

“Nearly every college in America accepts the SAT or Subject Tests as a part of its admissions process. That’s why more than two million students take the SAT every year.”

More information about the SAT Reasoning Test and the SAT Subject Tests–including when and where you can take these exams–can be found at:

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/about.html

Yes, international students must also take the SAT or SATs!

IB2SAT is designed to be particularly helpful for students pursuing the International Baccalaureate. Even if your native language is English, you need to get up to speed with SAT-level English. If your native language is not English, take advantage of this opportunity to train with native speakers and bring your English up to a competitive level.

IB2SAT will launch in February 2008 as part of a new SAT prep course at Munich International School. If you’re signed up for the course at MIS, you’re signed up for IB2SAT Online.

Are you at another school? Would you like to join us for IB2SAT Online? We’d love to have you! Wherever you may be–from Stuttgart to Singapore–just send an email message to:

athena@athena-mentor.com

We’ll send you information about the details and the cost.
